Kisa is committed to preserving African cultural narratives responsibly and ethically. This Content Removal Policy outlines the circumstances under which content may be removed, corrected, or restricted from our platform.

This policy applies to:

  • Multimedia publications
  • Archived materials

2. Grounds for Content Removal

Kisa may remove or restrict access to content under the following circumstances:

2.1 Legal Violations

Content that:

  • Infringes copyright or intellectual property rights
  • Is defamatory or unlawful
  • Violates privacy rights
  • Breaches Kenyan law or applicable international regulations

2.2 Cultural Misrepresentation

Content that:

  • Distorts sacred traditions
  • Misappropriates indigenous knowledge
  • Falsely claims cultural authority
  • Exploits communal heritage for improper gain

Kisa prioritizes cultural custodianship over traffic or engagement metrics.

2.3 Ethical Concerns

Content that:

  • Incites hate, discrimination, or violence
  • Contains harmful misinformation
  • Violates human dignity
  • Includes unverified sensitive historical claims

2.4 Contributor Withdrawal Requests

Contributors may request removal of their published content under the terms outlined in the Contributor Agreement.

3. Correction vs Removal

Kisa reserves the right to determine whether:

  • A correction or clarification is sufficient, or
  • Full removal is necessary

In cases of minor inaccuracies, Kisa may:

  • Update the content
  • Add editorial notes
  • Provide contextual disclaimers

Removal is considered a last resort unless legally required.

4. Requesting Content Removal

To request removal, submit a written notice to:

  • Your full name

  • URL or title of the content
  • Nature of the concern
  • Supporting documentation (if applicable)
  • Explanation of requested action

Incomplete requests may delay review.

5. Review Process

  1. Acknowledgment of receipt within 7 business days
  2. Internal review by editorial and legal oversight
  3. Cultural review (if relevant to indigenous or communal material)
  4. Decision communicated within 30 days

Complex matters may require extended review.

6. Copyright Complaints

If you believe your copyrighted work has been used improperly, include:

  • Proof of ownership
  • Identification of the infringing material
  • A statement made in good faith belief
  • A declaration under penalty of perjury that the claim is accurate

False claims may result in liability.

7. Archived & Printed Content

While digital content may be removed, previously printed or syndicated materials:

  • May remain in circulation
  • Cannot always be recalled
  • May continue to exist in archival repositories

Kisa will clarify archival limitations where applicable.

8. Transparency

Where content is removed due to serious violations, Kisa may publish a notice explaining:

  • The reason for removal
  • Editorial correction
  • Cultural clarification

This maintains public trust and institutional integrity.

9. Abuse of Removal Process

Kisa will not remove content solely because:

  • It is controversial but lawful
  • It challenges dominant narratives respectfully
  • It generates disagreement

Attempts to suppress legitimate cultural discourse may be declined.
